August 02 Actor who played killer charged in real-life whodunit - CNN.com
Actor who played killer charged in real-life whodunit - CNN.com This is a strange story from Whatcom County Washington. In 1990, a man told his children that their mother abandoned them, so she could live with another man in California. Their children, ages 13, 17, and 21, were suspicious. Truth is, the man had killed his wife in 1990, and had been cashing her disability checks for years. Two weeks before she "disappeared," Alice Hummel had learned that her husband was sexually molesting their 13 year-old daughter. Alice promised her daughter, it will never happen again. Hummel's children declared their mother missing in 2001. I'm posting with Windows Live Writer, and it's very easy. July 06 Say farewell to the weekendTime to get ready for work again.
I've managed to accomplish many things with my 3 day weekend: movies, reading, a few naps, a hair cut, brunch with my son, and just taking some time to sit back and be.
Hello Monday!
And my best to you all. June 29 Washington D.C., work, and homeWow.
What a month.
I got home from Oklahoma City on Monday, June 9, and worked the rest of the week.
Then on Monday, June 16, I flew to Washington D.C. to take part in an expert panel on homelessness and cognitive impairment.
I spent all day Tuesday taking part in the panel, and then flew home Wednesday evening.
Before flying home on Wednesday, I spent a few hours walking around downtown Washington, D.C.
I stood in front of The White House, walked around the Federal Triangle, and had a super lunch before coming back home.
Then I took a few days off.
And I'm still trying to recuperate!
Ha!
I'm embracing my inner travel wuss, because I have not traveled for so many years.
So I'm back, and will start visiting and commenting on your blogs, because I have missed you all. June 13 On the road, or the skies, once again
Just before I left for vacation, my boss asked me if I would take part in an expert panel at a conference in Washington, D.C.
All expenses paid.
He did not have to ask twice.
I got back from Oklahoma Monday night, and early this Monday morning I'm off to D.C., and I will be bacl late Wednesday night.
I'm still in shock, I guess, that my life has suddenly gotten interesting and very busy.
It's been a tough 5-6 years for me, with lots of family responsibility. In the past year, I've been able to focus on my work, and my efforts appear to have paid off, because my employer has honored me by asking me to represent my agency at a national conference.
So I will report back next week, and I hope to have some pictures soon of my Oklahoma trip, and maybe a few of D.C.
I hope you stop back next week for updates! May 30 Vacation, and great news!
Wish me well on my first real vacation (and plane ride) in 12 years!
This is the first time in all of those years that I've been able to pack a suitcase and be gone for more than 48 hours.
Woot!
And my son is flying back to Seattle with me, as he is starting a new job in Seattle.
The rest of the family will be out in August.
So I'm ready to see my grandchildren--you are right Caroldee, I'll bet they have grown a foot!
I will post when I'm back!
Stay well, my friends.
I have missed you all! May 27 Hello, vacation, blogging breakIn one week, I will be spending some time with my family and I'm very glad to be getting away for awhile. I hope to be blogging here again after my vacation. And I hope to share some pictures of my trip. Have a happy! April 26 So long, at least for nowThank God for my friend Jane.
I told her my online stalker story yesterday.
Boy, it's good to tell someone else about a difficult experience.
I'm taking a break from the internet for awhile, from this blog.
I've deleted my WordPress blog, and my Blogger blog will be gone within the next week or so.
If my stalker tries to contact me in "real life," then I will need to file a police report. I've been prepared to do this since last summer, when things were much worse.
So, for now, I shall say farewell and thanks so much for the chance to read your blogs, and to get to know you all.
I've lost my interest in blogging, at least for the time being.
God bless and keep you all. April 24 A change I've changed the permissions to this blog, so that only my SPACES friends can read. In the past year, I've had a big problem with a woman I used to know, a long time ago. She was bad news then, and she's bad news now. At least in my book. One of the things she has done, I think to try to drive me crazy, is get on the blogroll lists (and good graces of) some of my favorite bloggers. It's a long story, and one I'm sure you are not interested in. Anyway, I will be back in a few days, I just need to distance myself from this person as much as possible. Take care. I hope you are all well. April 20 Cold weather, gas prices, exercise, family, SundayGas is now $3.79 9/10 a gallon in Seattle right now
Yikes!
It's also very cold here right now--38 degrees.
No snow where I live, but yesterday we had hail, snow, rain, and sunshine.
I took a wonderful walk yesterday in the bright (cold) sunshine to get my vegetables and fruit.
Today I'm home doing laundry, but I'm going to walk to the mailbox this afternoon (about 3 blocks one way) and send my movies back to Netflix (Season 1 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
I'm trying to walk a lot for exercise, mainly because it's cheaper than anything else I can think of. When my tax rebate money lands in my bank account, I'm going to join the YMCA so that I can swim a few times a week--it will be good for my arthritis. I'm also going to buy a digital camera so I can share some Seattle photos with you all.
My family are trying hard to get back to the Seattle area, and I hope they make it back before summer is over--yeah!
Have a wonderful Sunday--I'm going to make some french toast for breakast.
April 19 Thinking pink, exercise, and pot roast I'm thinking pink today, because it's kind of cold and wet in Seattle today. In about twenty minutes, I'm going to bundle up and walk the six blocks or so to my neighborhood vegetable stand--I'm going to get small new potatoes and fresh carrots for my roast. There's a closer veggie stand, but the one I'm going to has better quality. Besides, I need the exercise. Then I'm going to come home, start my roast, and settle in for a nice warm afternoon/evening. Take care, my friends. April 18 Brrr Wednesday was a beautiful day. Thursday was colder, and the wind picked up. And today? Rain, snow, and hail. And more coming. I left work an hour early today and cleaned my apartment. My weekend plans are simple:
I've had my shower and I'm toasty warm. Time to read some blogs. Have a great Saturday! April 14 Monday's Reality![]() profile editor I had a great weekend, and spent very little money (I've actually spent more at a bookstore on Saturday afternoon than I spent all weekend). But it's now time to get back into the groove! Happy Tuesday, my friends. April 13 Home and the need to get back on the stick![]() free myspace layouts It was a great weekend, but now it's time to get back on the stick and get ready for Monday morning, and the week ahead. I'm refreshed and raring to go. Happy Monday to you all! I'm having a groovy time!April 12 Mini vacation![]() pimp myspace profile April 09 Which airline to choose? It looks like I'm finally going to see my family early this summer.
Woot!
I have not traveled in a log time (8 years, at least), because of financial "issues" and my mom's illness.
So--if you were traveling east this summer say about 2,000 miles, would you choose:
Thanks in advance for your help.
Weekend funI had a great Saturday.
I traveled to downtown Seattle and had a great lunch at The Cheesecake Factory, and I did not have a piece of cheesecake (my stomach doesn't hold a lot of food these days, still recuperating fom being ill for so long).
But it was a good lunch.
Then I stopped at the store and picked up a free-range chicken breast ad veggies for my dinner.
I watched two movies--Atonement and The Kite Runner. I really liked Atonement a lot, and I recommend it *****.
The Kite Runner was good, I'm going to give it ***. This movie has some flaws, especially the escape from Kabul scene at the end of the movie. It fell kind of flat, and could have been more dramatic, greater tension. Also, I'm just don't believe The Taliban are as bumbling as portrayed in the film. These parts just didn't ring true to me. Not Without My Daughter, a 1991 film starring Sally Field, is a good example of an American woman trying to escape Iran with her daughter. The Kite Runner tries to be a "feel good" movie. And it succeeds, mostly.
Since having this laptop, I'm spending way more time on the internet, because, of course, I don't have to sit at my desk. I'm watching a lot of movies right now, and even some television shows on my laptop.
Guess I'm addicted!
Have a great Sunday, my friends. |
